Tan + Brown Atelier
Why Pre-Order?
Your purchase starts the process, beginning with confirming the design + hand-selecting the leather. We do this to ensure we use the freshest hides, choose the highest-quality materials + avoid excess waste.
For popular colours + styles, we often produce a few pieces at a time. In this case, you will receive your bag earlier than the 4-6 week production window.
We try to match the colour exactly; however, if it differs slightly, we will contact you to confirm your choice.
This is a slower way of working, an intentional contrast to factory-led manufacturing. It is an intimate way of producing + is an important part of our brand's ethos.
Pre-Order FAQs
Why is everything pre-order?
We work on a pre-order basis, so each piece is made with a purpose. Once you place an order, we begin the process, starting with hand-selecting the leather specifically for your bag rather than producing in bulk. This means we create what our customers want, when they want it.
What happens after I place my order?
After purchase, we source + hand-pick the leather for your piece, choosing the best hides for colour, texture + quality. Your bag is then crafted in our Bali atelier before being prepared for shipping.
Why don't you buy leather in bulk?
Buying only what we need allows us to work with fresher leather, select higher-quality hides + reduce unnecessary waste. It’s a slower, more thoughtful way of making.
Will my bag look exactly like the photos?
Each bag is crafted from natural leather, which means subtle variations in texture + tone are part of its character. These differences are intentional + reflect the materials we work with. Because we source the leather after purchase, on occasion, there may be a slight variation in the colours available. If this happens, we will contact you to make sure you love the alternative.
Do you hold old stock?
We don’t hold excess stock. Pieces are made to order, allowing us to stay considerate with both production + materials. To reduce shipping costs + impact, we do sometimes produce a small batch of 3-5 pieces at a time on our most popular styles + colourways.
On occasion, we have a few pieces from The Archives + PR stock. We offer these to Tan + Brown Account holders only, accessed through our Private Atelier.
Is my order part of a limited release?
Yes. Our collections are released in small productions + may not be repeated. Availability is limited by design. Every specific colour + material combination for each style is limited to 50 pieces. If you love a colour combination + style, we recommend purchasing before it runs out.
I want to customise my bag. Can I change the colours?
Yes, we offer a customisation service to our Tan + Brown account holders. Sign up to join our newsletter + you will receive an invitation to join. This gives you access to our Private Atelier. Contact us if you are having difficulty opening an account.
Can I change or cancel my order?
As we begin sourcing materials shortly after purchase, changes may not be possible. If you need help, please contact us as soon as possible, and we’ll do our best to assist.
If you have ordered a bespoke design or customisation from our Private Atelier, it may be difficult to change your order. This will depend on the production timeline.
We offer full 30-day returns, excluding shipping costs, on all orders. If you don't love your bag, we will issue a refund after receiving your order, unused + in perfect condition.
